End of Life Care in Primary Care 2009 National Snapshot
The findings of the first ever national snapshot of end of life care in primary care are now available. The national snapshot includes information about 4487 deaths from 502 general practices in 15 PCT areas. Nine out of ten SHA regions are represented.
The audit, undertaken in 2009, and facilitated by Omega, was funded by Primary Care Trusts and the NHS National End of Life Programme.
We express our gratitude to the Gold Standards Framework team, The Evidence Centre and The University of Birmingham for their valuable contributions. Practices used an online version of the After Death Analysis (ADA) tool to provide information about all deaths that occurred between February and March 2009. The aim of the snapshot, which supported the National End of Life Care Strategy, was to understand the types of primary care services and support available for people approaching the end of life.
