Chatterbox Telephone Befriender Volunteer

Make a real difference to someone’s life. As a Chatterbox Befriender you’ll offer one to one telephone support by establishing a trusting, supportive relationship with a client. Omega volunteers come from all walks of life but have a little time to spare and want to make a difference. This ‘home’ volunteering role is very worthwhile and rewarding. Further details.

Community Fundraiser Volunteer

Our work relies heavily on the generosity of our supporters. As a Fundraiser, you will get involved in organising fundraising activities on a local or national level to ensure we can continue with our charitable role supporting family caregivers, the bereaved and the elderly.  You will work under our Community Fundraising lead providing support at fundraising and outreach events as well as some admin support.  You will be based near the Shrewsbury area with the ability to travel (your own car would be desirable.  Travel expenses will be covered).

We are looking to expand our community fundraising team beyond Shropshire so if you do live further afield and would like to be involved, please do get in touch.

Grant Fundraiser / Bid Writer Volunteer

We have vacancies for enthusiastic grant fundraisers/bid writers. We need help to expand and further develop our fundraising capacity to meet increasing demand for our multi-award-winning programmes.

You will be responsible for:

  • writing quality funding applications
  • strengthening a small, highly motivated team.
  • assessing opportunities
  • implementing our new fundraising strategy
  • helping to determine the pace of growth

You’ll be a highly motivated and resilient self-starter who thinks clearly and enjoys writing well. You’ll welcome leadership, take personal responsibility for success and (occasional) disappointment and share our belief that caring is everyone’s business. You’ll understand the need for innovation and continuous improvement. Above all, you’ll get credit for your achievements and recognition for being part of something worthwhile.

You might be experienced or a determined quick learner wanting to try something new. Perhaps, you have a track record presenting applications to major grant making trusts or preparing institutional bids. Any fundraising experience would be helpful but you will need to demonstrate that you can apply the skills you have to write compelling and pursuasive applications. You must also be able to work collaboratively and inspire colleagues (paid and unpaid) to boost our development activity.

Please send a detailed CV together with a covering letter describing your fundraising performance and any other relevant information to support your application. It would be helpful if you could capture your enthusiasm for fundraising and any interest you have in aspects of our work in your letter.  This role has the potential to move into a paid position.

Please apply to Lesley Fry at volunteersupport@omega.uk.net or call 01743 245 088 for an informal chat.

Volunteer Researchers

We are looking for resourceful, committed and diligent volunteer researchers who can help office-based colleagues with research for grant fundraising, communications, and signposting.  Ideal for those qualified to graduate or post-graduate levels, you will be conducting home-based research as directed by the Grant Fundraising team, Communications team, or Chatterbox Action Against Loneliness Programme co-ordinators. You will need to be a motivated self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision (though support will always be available from office-based colleagues), someone who can adeptly research, record and cite information correctly, have a thorough attention to detail and are passionate about making a positive impact on communities. You will need to be able to report in clear, accessible English.  Please do get in touch if you would like some more information or an informal chat.
